Namaste, India!

NürnbergMesse India celebrates its fifth anniversary in Mumbai /// by

Mumbai is the biggest city in India and one of three locations of NürnbergMesse India

The Taj Mahal Palace and the Gateway of India are the two symbols of mega-metropolis Mumbai

Tropical heat, fantastic colours and exotic smells are in the air. We’re on the roof terrace of the Taj Mahal Palace in Mumbai. The 115-year-old hotel is one of the most important buildings in India and has accommodated many international VIPs in the past, from John Lennon to Barack Obama and Prince Charles. On 20 April 2018, it was a place where cultures meet, because this is where NürnbergMesse India celebrated its five-year anniversary. With this choice, the company not only turned the spotlight on its success story, it also highlighted the goals that are driving its success: bring together people from all over the world, create platforms for dialogue and build bridges.

The history of NürnbergMesse in India began as early as the 1990s. Its first contract in 1992 was for a pavilion for German companies at the Agrotech trade fair in Chandigarh. Since 1992, NürnbergMesse India has been working with the Indo-German Chamber of Commerce (IGCC) as our foreign representative office. In 2009, a new phase of collaboration with the IGCC began on a per-project basis for specific events. This move also heralded the first of NürnbergMesses own events in India: BIOFACH India.

NürnbergMesse was contributing its expertise in trade fair organisation at a time when Indian industry was focused on participating in specialised trade fairs rather than broad-based exhibitions. In 2013, therefore, the decision was taken to establish NürnbergMesse India in New Delhi as the fifth international subsidiary of the NürnbergMesse Group. At that time the portfolio of the new subsidiary comprised three events: BIOFACH India, Fensterbau Frontale India and Powder & Bulk Solids India. Today, five years later, it hosts 15 of its own events managed by a staff of around 40 at three locations: New Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore.

The 15 fairs are ACREX India, ALUCAST, BIOFACH INDIA, BROADCAST INDIA, Craft Drinks India, Fire & Security India Expo, HPCI-CCC India, it-sa India, PAINTINDIA, POWTECH India, REFCOLD India, India Wood, Mumbai Wood, Delhi Wood and ZAK Powered by FENSTERBAU FRONTALE.

Over the years, Sonia Prashar has played a very active role in the development of NürnbergMesse India. Initially she managed the company’s Indian projects as Director of Marketing & Exhibitions at the IGCC, and since 2013 she’s been Managing Director of NürnbergMesse India. She has an excellent understanding of both Indian and German cultures and has made a significant contribution to the positive development of the company through her enormous personal commitment and expertise. It’s therefore certainly no coincidence that one year ago Prashar was voted “SUPERWOMAN of the Indian Exhibition Industry.” She’s also a longstanding member of the Board of the Indian Exhibition Industry Association. The conditions are therefore ideal for us to be looking back at the first successful decade of NürnbergMesse India in five years’ time.
