Chinese pet care market growth fuels China International Pet Show 2012
  • More than 800 exhibitors from over 20 countries expected
  • Gross display area increases to 55,000 square meters
The 16th China International Pet Show (CIPS) will be held in the New China International Exhibition Center in Beijing, November 1–4, 2012. With an expected increase of exhibitors to about 800 this year, the number of visitors is set to rise again, reflecting China’s increasing disposable income spent on pets. CIPS is the most influential trade show of pet supply products in China, alternately taking place annually in Beijing and Guangzhou. For CIPS 2012 the gross exhibiting space will be extended by ten percent from 50,000 to 55,000 square meters. The trade show is jointly organized by the China Great Wall International Exhibition Company and the German NürnbergMesse GmbH.
Within the last five years the Chinese pet industry has demonstrated its growth potential. In parallel with the country’s economic development, the pet care market has risen by about 28 percent in the last five years. This may be attributable to higher disposable income levels, and therefore the ability to spend more on pet care products, and to the lowering of licensing fees on dogs by the Chinese government. According to Euromonitor, China is among the 10 fastest growing pet food markets with an estimated compound annual growth rate of 7.7 per cent. For 2015, a turnover of 476 million US-Dollars on pet food alone is forecast. Chinese pet owners with growing income are likely to spend more money on their pets, for example on pet dietary supplements, as “pet humanization” is a trend leading to the production of foods addressing a multitude of health issues.

Exhibiting at CIPS – taking part in a growing market

The 16th CIPS edition will once again focus on aquariums, pet food, pet supplies, trade publications and health care products. The trade show attracts exhibitors and trade visitors from China and the global pet care markets. Foreign exhibitors already signed up for the trade show include Ankur Exports from India and OmegaSea, LLC from the USA. Both exhibited at CIPS over the last years.

The successful concept of CIPS both convinces exhibitors to return and attracts new exhibitors every year. In 2012 the French company Eurosiam, the Japanese ZEPHYR CO. LTD. and Mark & Chappell Ltd. from Ireland will attend the show for the first time and present their products to the growing Chinese pet care market. Due to the lingering European debt crisis and the down-turn of the US economy, the organizers have put more efforts on attracting visitors from Asia and other countries, opening up opportunities to enrich the respective exhibitor’s home market. The current number of registered visitors exceeds that of last year at this point.

Versatility and security at CIPS

Complementing the exhibition, CIPS will offer a high-quality supporting program such as the China National Goldfish Competition, a fashion show, a dog competition and grooming demonstrations. In addition to offering a rich program and product portfolio, the organizers of CIPS also put a lot of effort into protecting the Intellectual Property Rights of product developers. As in the last years, the IPR lawyer office will be located on-site and exhibitors violating IPR will not be allowed to exhibit at CIPS. “With CIPS we operate in the largest manufacturing country and appeal to a very promising market for the pet supply industries”, explains Katharina Horn, NürnbergMesse’s project coordinator for CIPS, “Therefore we want to guarantee a high-quality product portfolio, satisfying the market needs and making sure that good ideas and new inventions stay with their originators.”
