CLOSING REPORT Powder & Bulk Solids India 2012: Mekka for the Indian Powder & Bulk industry
  • Latest processing and bulk solids handling technologies presented in Ahmedabad
  • Great demand: 58 percent more attendees
The Indian Powder & Bulk market is booming − visitors and exhibitors of the annual Powder & Bulk Solids India agreed on this fact. India’s most important event for processing technologies and bulk solids handling was held from March 13 - 15, 2012 in Ahmedabad, and created an impressive showcase for the booming Indian Powder & Bulk industry. The organizers Vogel Business Media and NürnbergMesse recorded a growing demand: The exhibition with accompanying conference attracted 1.490 attendees, a plus of 58 percent compared to last year. 64 exhibitors from 12 nations showcased numerous technologies for mixing, conveying, milling or separating of powder and bulk solids. Additionally, high caliber conference sessions and workshops, as well as the presentation of five important Powder & Bulk Awards served as conducive platform for fruitful interactions at highest level.
The organizers NürnbergMesse and Vogel Business Media are very pleased that Powder & Bulk Solids India 2012 once again listed a steady increase in the number of people attending the event. This positive trend reflects that the unique cross-sectoral concept of the Powder & Bulk Solids India Exhibition & Conference holds a big potential in India. The organizers are committed to continue refining the concept with regard to this year’s exhibitors’ and visitors’valuable input. More than 86 % of the exhibitors agreed that the event has a great potential to be further exploited. They rated the market potential above average to excellent.

The Indian sub-continent ranks as one of the world’s most promising growth markets. And processes such as conveying, milling, screening, and mixing are required for the production process in many of these growing industries, such as chemical, pharmaceutical, food, cement and mining industry.

At the Powder & Bulk Solids India, a total 64 exhibitors from 12 nations presented the latest processing technologies in these fields. Besides 47 Indian exhibitors, 17 companies from Singapore, Belgium, Canada, Germany, Italy, Japan, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, and the U.S. used the Indian platform to present their products and services. Exhibitors included international key players like FLSmidth, Aerzen, Macawber Beekay, Cargotec, Phoenix Conveyor Belt India, Martin Engineering and ThyssenKrupp. Three out of four exhibitors were very pleased with the high quality of the visitor contacts. 80 % met the right visitor group.

Great demand for lectures and workshops

Vijay K. Agarwal of the Indian Institute of Technology in New Delhi, chairman of the conference, noted with satisfaction that the conference has once again been the scene of professional discussions at highest level. 19 high class papers on the latest powder & bulk knowledge were presented during the three-day conference, covering scientific results as well as practical solutions for daily operations. Due to the great demand in 2011, the number of the workshops was doubled. The eight workshops held by international heavyweights such as Larsen & Toubro, Evonik and Jenike & Johanson were very well accepted. One of the highlights was the hands-on workshop held by Tim Freeman from Freeman Technology. He presented an innovative method for understanding and measuring of powder behaviour, an essential step prior to process design.

Development in the Indian Powder & Bulk industries awarded

Five important industry awards were presented during the opening ceremony of the Powder & Bulk Solids India 2012. Macawber Beekay received the “Green Technology Award” for their achievements in the pneumatic conveying of fly ash. The “Milestone Project Award”, given to Pabak Mukhopadhyay, valued a 17-km-haulway for limestone between India and Bangladesh. The “Technology Innovation Award” went to Aerzener Maschinenfabrik for the development of the energy efficient Delta Hybrid compressor system. Vega India, founded in December 2011, was granted with the “Young Indian Companies Award” for their very promising start. This year’s “Lifetime Achievement Award” honoured Prof. Balakrishnan Pitchumani for more than 30 years of research and education activity in powder processing and particle technology.
