Anniversary meeting: NürnbergMesse Supervisory Board meets for 150th time

4. July 2025
  • Since 1974, the Supervisory Board has been the body that oversees and advises NürnbergMesse
  • More than €1 billion has been invested in the exhibition company since its foundation

Following NürnbergMesse’s 50th anniversary last year, the trade fair organiser's Supervisory Board is celebrating its very own anniversary this year: The controlling body came together at Exhibition Centre Nuremberg for the 150th time today, 4 July 2025. The anniversary session was led by Albert Füracker, the Bavarian Minister for Finance and Regional Identity, who alternates with Mayor Marcus König in the role of Chair of the Supervisory Board every three years: “It is both an honour and a pleasure to support NürnbergMesse as Chair of the Supervisory Board. The company is an innovative force and major economic driver not just for the Nuremberg Metropolitan Region but for all of Bavaria. My thanks go to the members of the Supervisory Board and the Board of Management for their excellent collaboration.” The 18-strong Supervisory Board comprises members from regional and local government, and since 2018 has also included six employee representatives as prescribed by the size of the company.

To mark the 150th meeting, NürnbergMesse CEO Peter Ottmann expressed his gratitude with a celebratory cake and commended the work of the Supervisory Board: “The Supervisory Board is a reliable means of support for NürnbergMesse. It has always guided our company since its foundation with vision, diligence, and the necessary resolve. In doing so, it has consistently focused on the well-being of the inhabitants of the Nuremberg Metropolitan Region and its economic health. The board’s valuable support for us – especially during the challenging years of the pandemic – cannot be overstated.”

Coinciding with its 50th anniversary, NürnbergMesse reported record sales again in 2024 – a strong signal for the future viability of the company and its business model.

1974: The first meeting laid the foundation for the company’s success

The Supervisory Board held its inaugural meeting on 20 March 1974 in the Wolff’scher Bau town hall in Nuremberg. At that time, the exhibition company had a share capital of DM 6.3 million. Nuremberg’s then Mayor Dr Andreas Urschlechter was elected Chair of the Supervisory board, with Assistant Mayor Willy Prölß and Councillor Helmut Bühl as his deputies. A few days later, on 5 April, the “Nürnberger Messe- und Ausstellungsgesellschaft mbH” was entered into the commercial register.

In the last 50 years, around €1.1 billion has been invested in the exhibition company, most of which is thanks to the Supervisory Board’s initiatives. The entire Nuremberg Metropolitan Region and beyond benefits from the trade fairs, congresses and corporate events held in Nuremberg. Every year, the events in Nuremberg generate a purchasing power of around €2 billion, safeguarding some 16,000 jobs throughout Germany.
