NürnbergMesse's new digital logistics system reduces waiting times for suppliers and traffic load around the exhibition centre

Press release NürnbergMesse

Green light for digital trade fair logistics system

28. August 2023

  • A premiere for NürnbergMesse at POWTECH 2023: Customers can book a digital trade fair logistics system from 28 August
  • Efficient and sustainable: Bookable time slots reduce  waiting times for freight forwarders and cut traffic volumes around Exhibition Centre Nuremberg

Trade fairs such as POWTECH (26-29 September) are accompanied by hundreds of goods vehicles arriving and departing daily for set-up and dismantling activities at the Nuremberg venue. Now the trade fair company is making its logistics more efficient and more sustainable with the new “transITfair” digital trade fair logistics system, which customers can access for the first time from 28 August to help set up the Leading Trade Fair for Bulk Solids. The aim is to significantly reduce waiting times for freight companies and traffic congestion around the Exhibition Centre. The system was developed by gts systems and consulting from Aachen, one of the partner firms of NürnbergMesse. The specialists worked with logistics experts from NürnbergMesse to test the system at EUROGUSS 2022 and FeuerTrutz 2023 in particular, and continuously adapted it to the realities of the Exhibition Centre. Remo Zimmermann, Vice President Services at NürnbergMesse, comments: “It’s a real pleasure to see our digital trade fair logistics system being launched at POWTECH! That will make goods movements to and from our trade fairs even more efficient and sustainable in future.”

At the heart of the trade fair logistics system is the digital booking of preferred set-up and dismantling times using a reservation system. It is very convenient: With just a few clicks, customers such as exhibitors, stand construction companies and carriers can book their time slots for loading and unloading, in several languages. The system thus smooths out the peak traffic periods for entering and exiting the Exhibition Centre and within the loading yards, and reduces waiting times for the carriers.

For goods vehicles that arrive at the Exhibition Centre before their reserved times, a goods vehicle parking area measuring 21,000 m² is available, with food stands and sanitary facilities. On arrival, the drivers can register at terminals and receive confirmation of the time slot they had booked, in addition to instructions on how to get to the loading yard in question. The drivers receive a text message to advise that their reserved time slot is now available. At the exhibition venue, service partners of NürnbergMesse such as Kühne + Nagel (AG & Co.) KG, Schenker Deutschland AG and Engelhardt & Co. Parkraummanagement und Service GmbH monitor and coordinate incoming goods traffic, the correct use of defined parking spaces, and access to the loading yard gates for the individual halls.

Lower emissions, reduced costs

Efficient traffic control using the new digital trade fair logistics system offers goods vehicle drivers greater comfort, reduces traffic volumes and carbon emissions on the access roads to the Exhibition Centre, and saves the freight firms time and thus also costs. At the same time, the logistics experts at NürnbergMesse obtain valuable data about the system: Which set-up and dismantling times are most popular? How can the loading situation within the Exhibition Centre be further improved? What additional services would freight firms and customers of NürnbergMesse find particularly appealing? These are questions the digital trade fair logistics system will help to answer in future.
